Housemates. Friends. With benefits? What could go wrong?
A story inspired by real-life events, 'Cherston' follows a group of 4 young people in a house share, along with their 2 close friends, as they navigate their early 20s. They frequently throw parties, get way too drunk, and complain about their jobs. This story demonstrates how easy it is to abandon our self-worth when shown some attention.
Set in 2020-21, we explore the psychological toll of 6 people being forced to spend so much time together, and how their subconscious obsession with each other is all that's getting them through, while also tearing them apart. It explores the issue of limerence, breadcrumbing, and how simple it can be to become entangled in toxic relationships - romantic and platonic. Can we forge a way out of these situations? Do we even notice we're in them? Do we ever get the strength to walk away? Do we value ourselves enough to be alone?
From her 2021 diary, to the beginnings of drafting in 2024, writer Emily Farley puts her trauma on stage.
"Blame fucking BoJo. I don’t get paid enough to deal with this shit."
"Are you frying broccoli?"
"I liked a boy. I got sad. And you used that."
"You know, you’ve never actually said anything nice about me."
