Jerusalem meets Four Lions in this riotous satirical take on the current state of England.

 

In the town of Newbury suddenly all the flags that had adorned the lampposts of the high street are gone. Two men (Lance and Gav) are incensed and take it upon themselves to right this terrible injustice. They kidnap council worker Rose who who wakes up terrified and covered in a St.George’s flag terrified. Lance and Gav insist that they will let her go if the flags are returned to their rightful place and their demands are taken seriously.

 

But Rose is not the supplicant kidnappee that Lance and Gav had expected and she starts to fight back against them and drive a wedge between the two vigilantes. Outside of the basement, illuminated by a flickering streetlight, a mysterious figure puts English myth and history under a microscope as reality starts to collapse around us...

 

From emerging theatre company Bombproof Theatre (HR at the Bomb Factory) Flagshaggers is an urgent and funny exploration of what England wants to be as a nation. Through humour, folklore and history, Englishness is placed under the microscope at a time when our national consensus is fracturing.
