“Do you know what you’ve done? Do you have any idea? These pictures aren’t going away.”
Two young women living in Washington, D.C. are horrified to discover that AI-generated explicit content depicting their likenesses is being circulated online. As they rush to discover who is responsible for creating and sharing these deepfakes and why, they contend with the fact that virtually no laws exist to hold the perpetrator responsible.
Written by Ben Hatt, Imposed will have its UK premiere at The Hope Theatre January 14th, 15th and 16th at 7pm.Directed by Hannah Eidinow (five Scotsman Fringe First Awards), and starring Elizabeth Colwell (Slow Horses season 6), Offie-nominated Josselyn Ryder (The Highwayman, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale) and Aaron Lynn (Masters of the Universe, Doomers), and with fight direction by Joseph Reed (Shakespeare's Globe, Southwark Playhouse), Imposed is a three-hander socio-political drama grappling with a world fraught with megalomaniacs, misogyny, and the unbridled mutations of social media outpacing our ability to grasp hold of the reins.
Ben Hatt is a playwright and speechwriter whose other plays include Drink In Moderation which explores the psychological impact of social media content moderation, Revelations about the cover-up of sexual abuse in the Jehovah's Witnesses and Carl Duncan 2020 which interrogates the unraveling of a presidential candidate in the lead up to his campaign. In his speechwriting capacity, he has written for major political leaders who went on to serve as senior officials in the Biden administration and more.
