A REHEARSED READING
David is writing a rom-com. Or he’s living a rom-com. Maybe both. Or maybe neither… David loves love. But he’s not in love. Oh no. Definitely not…
Our story follows David, a wannabe filmmaker, and his long-time friend Kate, an accomplished woman in STEM, as they navigate not ending up together. This Is Not A Rom-Com is an interrogation, celebration and criticism of a genre, its ‘golden-age’ and the way it’s shaped our relationship with relationships.
‘This Is Not A Rom-Com’ is Amy Kidd’s second play. Her “groundbreaking” debut play ‘Breaking’ was produced by the Olivier award-winning Fishamble, Ireland’s leading new play company, in the Dublin Theatre Festival 2024.
This Rehearsed-Reading is presented by Anseo Anois Theatre; an emerging, award-winning Irish theatre company co-founded by Amy Kidd, Éanna Grogan and Oonagh Wall in 2019. The company has been praised as “excellent, emerging talent” (The Reviews Hub), “particularly impressive” (Radius Magazine) and “one to watch” (No More Workhorse).
