'I think we were truly happy...for a time.'

Jean-Michael, preened, prissy, and properly spoken, isn’t sure he’s meant to be here.
Shoved into a single occupancy room by a hazmat suit in a rush, no one has been to see him in twenty four hours. No doctor, no nurse...not even the tea trolley. So when the door does fly off it’s hinges and the leather-clad, common-as-muck, patient advocate Eunice Carnie waltzes in to take down his particulars, he’s faced with a choice: allow Eunice to barge into his final days or accept that no one, no one, is coming to visit.

As the unlikely comrades muddle through the barriers of class, discrimination, and stigma, they begin to drift into the dangerous territory of common ground. Strained and sullied relationships with their mothers, disowned families, first loves who fell short of till death do us part. But as the lines blur between professional and personal, Eunice’s self-inflicted crusade to be Jean-Michael’s guardian angel tears open a rift that threatens to swallow them both whole.
But it’s funny how death brings people together just when it’s too late, isn’t it?
